Lost Childhood Object

 Lost Childhood Object

For this project I paired with my good friend Creed Bauman, Creed's lost childhood object was a Lightning Mcqueen race car. In talking with Creed he explained how his car had been by his side for the majority of his life between years six to eight.  A story was told how on a sunny afternoon Creed was stopped from running and playing outside until he put sunscreen on, which, he then took literally and put on himself and his toy car. The sunscreen ended up bleaching the plastic leaving the car faded and soon to be colorless. Although his car was colorless, this aesthetic defect did not stop him from playing with and pretend-driving it all along the sidewalk and every nook and cranny of his house.

Recreating a lost childhood object for anyone is a difficult task. Trying to rebuild something that is lost is an impossible task let alone the sentiment behind the object. For my project I decided to recreate the toy car but put a little spin on it. I took poster board and cut it into the Lightning Mcqueen shape and painted it to match. After finishing the painting, I bore a hole into the top and added a ribbon through the hole. This addition was so Creed could hang his object from anywhere he pleased and be reminded of his childhood every time he encountered it. The materials I used in the creation of this object neither added nor hindered in my making  of this object and the path to creation was seamless and easy. To finish, I added some orange scented essential oil into the foam so that in the event Creed hangs the toy car from his rear view mirror it will smell nicely and he will hopefully appreciate my gift furthermore.
