Drawing Challenges
Drawing on an Object
For my initial drawing on an object project, the pillowcase came to mind instantly. As the pillowcase's use is for the bettering of your sleep and to help you fall asleep at night, I wanted to express words or actions that do or do not help you to fall asleep at night. I used a plethora of different mediums and art styles to portray the words onto the pillowcase. My mediums ranged from embroidery, sharpie, paint, charcoal, colored pencil, ball point pen, and even cutting out of the actual pillowcase to create the words onto the pillow. In starting my third piece, my initial reaction to the sheet in this particular magazine was that the mother looked as if she was playing her child as a musical instrument. So I decided to portray the way that my mind works and perceives art onto the actual piece and draw a lyre onto the child's torso. Although not an incredibly difficult piece I think it is a more silly and fun take on the drawing on an object challenge.
For my fourth piece I was walking around with the initial cardboard pieces for around ten minutes until I decided to hot glue some sidewalk chalk onto one side in different formations. After curing, I went about putting the two pieces of cardboard between my hands and rubbing them together in a clockwise motion, transfering the chalk onto the plain cardboard. Because of the different levels of height the chalks were at some did not transfer onto the other board until they were all ground down to the same height.
For the fifth and final piece the eagle in the long sheet of parchment paper really spoke to me. Either being a proud American citizen, or loving the outdoors I ripped it off and in half. As I looked closely at the page I could see someones tread from their shoe on the paper. I decided to take a gel pen and extend the tread off the page and into the eagle, after extending the tread I traced the eagle with a red silhouette and redefined the chalk lines and added a bit of texture. I am happy with the short amount of time and how it turned out, thank you to the artist before me for creating the skeleton for my piece.
